Food production

Before reaching our plates, our food is produced, stored, processed, packaged, transported, prepared, and served. At every stage, food provisioning releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Farming in particular releases significant amounts of methane and nitrous oxide, two powerful greenhouse gases and accounts for about 10% of our total emissions. We have choices in what we buy and can reduce our contribution to global warming by considering where it has come from, how it has been produced and how it is packaged.
